After seeing Brownsville Veterans Memorial win the first game Friday at the Region IV-5A Soccer Tournament at Corpus Christi’s Cabaniss Sports Complex, the Lobos came through with a 2-1 victory against Alamo Heights in the second semifinal.

Brownsville Veterans defeated Alamo High 4-0 in the opening semifinal.

Lopez’s win sets up an all-Brownsville Region IV-5A final at Cabaniss for the second straight year.

A season ago, the Porter Cowboys rallied to defeat the Pace Vikings 2-1 in overtime in the Region IV-5A final and went on to capture the Class 5A state title with a 28-0-1 record.

This time it will be the District 32-5A champion Chargers and 32-5A third-place Lobos vying for a spot at next week’s UIL state tournament. The two Brownsville teams play at noon Saturday at Cabaniss.

When the Lobos and Chargers played in district earlier this season, they split a pair of games with Brownsville Veterans triumphing 2-1 the first time on Feb. 6 and the Lobos winning 4-2 in the second matchup on March 3.
